Edmonton, Alberta | Students of the Fiji Hindu Language and Cultural Society were thrilled to walk into a pleasant surprise this morning on their first day back to Hindi School after their Spring / Ram Navami break.
“With the grace of Bhagavan Shri Ram Ji and Mata Sita, some major School renovations have now been completed in time for the reopening of School today,” said Danny Singh, President of the Fiji Hindu Language and Cultural Society.
Renovations done over the break include brand new flooring, floor edging, repainted walls and ceiling, and a new kitchen faucet.
“All of this work was possible thanks to the generosity and kindness of our supporters. We sincerely thank everyone in our community who supported the School through the raffle fundraiser and dinner & dance we hosted in 2024,” noted Treasurer Avi Singh.
This renovation work was carried out successfully with major support from Master Anil Raju, one of the founding members of the Fiji Hindu Language and Cultural Society. Mr. Raju has provided immense project management support for the project and also helped with the reflooring process.
“Our students were extremely impressed with the new design and layout of the School. As they came in this morning, the first thing they did was walk around and explore the refreshed look of the building,” said Teachers Laleshni Reddy and Nilesh Baran.
The renovation work was done in three parts. Firstly, a large group of parent and teacher volunteers cleared the main area and repainted the interior of the building. Secondly, the contractor relevelled the floors and installed new flooring. Thirdly, volunteers helped clean the building and set the classrooms back up.
“This is a major achievement for our School to achieve our vision of creating a state of the art institution for Sanatan Dharma education in Edmonton. While this was a big project, there is more to come, and we will continue to make strategic investments into our School to continue advancing our childrens’ learning environment,” said Secretary Ashwin Bali.
In the upcoming years, the Society will look at making additional interior and exterior upgrades to the facility to further improve its aesthetics and functionality.
